'Buy Local'campaign warmly welcomed by Totnes Liberal Democrat Mike Treleaven, as he looks forward to visiting the the Slow Food workshop at Dartmoor's Holne Chase hotel

The campaign to encourage people to buy local food, which is gathering pace all over the West Country, has been warmly welcomed by Totnes Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman, Mike Treleaven.

Speaking today Mike Treleaven said:

'We have a wealth of good, locally produced food in the West Country and the Totnes Constituency in particular. Meat, vegetables, fish, milk, cheese, crisps, wine, ice cream - the list is endless, all produced by people who care about the quality and taste of the food we eat'

He continued:

'Not only does it taste better but the food is produced in an environmentally friendly way with less use of chemicals, less distance to transport the products and more emphasis on animal welfare. We need to 'think local' whenever we buy food and encourage our schools, and hospitals to do the same .On Friday 10th, March, I am looking forward to taking part in the 'Slow Food' event at the Holne Chase Hotel on Dartmoor which will, I am sure, give a great insight into how we should best bring the 'local' emphasis back into our food.'
