Dear Editor,
Yet again we read of vandalism in our town as the recreation ground toilets and sporting facilities were damaged and this weekend we have another major fire suspected of being caused by arson. Some parents seem not to care where their offspring are at night and the police tell us that their limited resources are insufficient to cope. So what do we do?
We have been told in the past that the problems in Kingsbridge are minor compared to other areas. That may be so but they are not minor to the citizens of Kingsbridge and are increasing in severity all the time. We all know that the main time for disturbance is between the hours of 11.00p.m. and 3.00a.m. on Friday and Saturday night Surely we need a police blitz at this time to crack down on underage drinking and the anti social behaviour of a small minority who are giving the whole of the youth of Kingsbridge an undeserved bad name. A short blitz period could then be followed up by a random, but more frequent presence.
The police need more resources and this will not happen overnight, but surely it is time to stop the nonsense of all arrested suspects having to be taken to Torbay ( as reported in 'Kingsbridge Matters'), with all the implications that has for time and resources.
Yours sincerely,
Mike Treleaven
